QUARTER TWO

Art Binder Assignment # 3 " Do the Dew"

"Obey your thirst!" Do you recognize that slogan?  If not, quiz your parents and see if they can recall what soda that catchy slogan represented.  While it's definitely important to produce clever and catchy slogans to promote your brand, it is equally important to design eye-catching and memorable artwork that wraps around the can you are trying to sell.  This encourages shoppers to whisk your product right off the shelves and into their shopping carts.  So here is your drawing challenge this month:

  1. come up with a new drink that could be sold in a can.
  2. using the template provide in class or download and print the PDF from myUSM to design what your can will look like.
  3. you may use markers, colored pencils or you may choose to import the digital file of the template into an app or other software like Adobe Photoshop and design your can digitally.
  4. submit your artwork into the baskets if you use colored pencils or markers.  If you create a digital design, please submit your work directly into your Google Drive Art folder OR you may print a hard copy of it.

Remember, when you are drawing on a cylinder, you need to keep in mind that it is a curve therefore be sure to think about this curve when creating your design.

Due to our Thanksgiving break, all drawings will be due the week of December 2nd.  Remember to check myUSM for your section's exact due date.

***If you are feeling really ambitious, and have access to Photoshop (not the PS Touch app) here is a tutorial for creating a mock up soda can using Photoshop.

Here are some examples I saw that became my inspiration for this binder assignment.

Art Binder Assignment #4 "Order Up!"

What's on the menu in your house?  Choose a meal, breakfast, lunch or dinner and get ready to eat, oh wait, I mean draw! But just to be sure you get to eat your meal,  grab a camera/iPad and snap a photo first! This will help you as you work on your drawing over time.  Your goal is to try to draw realistically, including as much detail as you can in your drawing.  Remember to draw what you see! Observe closely and carefully.   Be sure to think about composition - how will you plan your space to balance the positive and negative space in your drawing? This drawing should be done in colored pencil only!!!! But don't forget to start with pencil first to lightly plan your drawing.  This drawing is due the week of December 16th.  Please check myUSM to determine your section's due date.
Here are some beautiful drawings of food to get your creative juices flowin'!
