QUARTER TWO BINDER ASSIGNMENTS - 2014

Binder Assignment # 3 "Magazine Mash-Up"

Looking for a great way to exercise your imagination?  Well, here is your chance!  This next binder assignment requires a bit of searching before you start drawing so READ CAREFULLY!

  1. Find a magazine picture (NOT a printed image off the internet).  It should be something recognizeable as a person, place or thing, not just patterns/shapes.
  2. Select your favorite portion of the magazine image and  NEATLY cut it out. Your  magazine portion should be no smaller than 2x2 inches and not much larger than 3.5 x 3.5 inches.
  3. Neatly glue with a glue stick to a piece of white drawing paper/binder paper.
  4. Using pencil first, draw whatever you think the rest of the picture should look like.
  5. BE IMAGINATIVE, BE CREATIVE!
  6. Once done with pencil, ADD COLOR!   You may use colored pencils, watercolor,  markers, or a combination of these for this drawing assignment.  (keep scrolling...)

These binder assignments are due the week of November 17th.  Please check your myUSM assignments page for your sections EXACT due date.  Happy drawing!

Binder Assignment # 4 " Superior Selfies"

Okay, so we all know what a selfie is, but do you know what a SUPERIOR selfie is?  Never heard of it? Me either, so I figured we should create our own!  Let's create some super amazing superior selfies!

Here's what you need to do:
  1. Start with a selfie.  Using a digital device, take your photo.  Focus  your head/face and think about creating an interesting composition
  2. Upload your photo into PS Touch (iPad/iPhones) or any other digital imaging software.
  3. Now, manipulate your photo!  Digitally draw over it, colorize it,  manipulate it, YOU DECIDE!
  4. Remember to think about your technique:
    • demonstrate good craftsmanship on your digital device
    • balance color throughout your design
    • create interesting space
  5.  Please include a list of what you did so I know how your manipulated your photo and what tools you used to do it.  They do not have to be in the order you did them. For example, in the image below, I did the following to change/manipulate my selfie:
    • take photo in Photo Booth
    • adjust the color balance in Photoshop
    • layer an image of paint splotches in Photoshop
    • use the paint bucket tool to change colors in sections of photo in Photoshop
Your final image should be uploaded into your Google Drive art folder.
YOU DO NOT NEED TO PRINT THIS ONE!
All digital selfies are due the week of December 8th. Check your myUSM for your section's exact due date. Please see me if you have questions about this assignment.
